March Construction’s Commitment to Safety
Safety Director Frank Brady and Safety Coordinator Leila Stephan conducted our 2024 Safety Stand Down toolbox talk across multiple locations including Courthouse Square in Flemington, NJ, Hamilton Street Apartments in Bound Brook, and The Borden Complex in Queens, NY (with Total Safety).
"For ten years now, every May, there's a week called the Fall Prevention Stand-Down. We focus on this because falls are the top cause of serious injuries and deaths on construction sites, especially among the Hispanic population," Frank stated.
Real-Life Warnings from Frank
Frank shared insights into the typical dangers at construction sites,
"Where can falls happen? From A-frame ladders, extension ladders, scaffolding, elevator shafts, roofs, and even out of windows." Frank reminded the team.
The talk discussed the dangers of complacency on a construction site. Frank recounted incidents illustrating the severe consequences of safety negligence.
"When you're on a construction site, you need to pay attention—it's a dangerous place. Just last year, a guy fell down an elevator shaft and it changed his life forever."
“If you need to take a phone call, whether it’s from a family member or your boss, don’t just walk and talk. Find a safe spot, then take the call. Stay focused on the job… It’s a harsh reminder—if you keep thinking ‘It won’t happen to me’ because you’re tough, it will happen. You have to bring your A-game every day.” Frank passionately expressed.
This serves as a powerful reminder of the importance of meticulousness in safety practices.
March Construction’s Continuous Safety Endeavor
Through these Safety Stand Downs, March Construction reaffirms its commitment not just to meet, but to exceed, safety standards, setting a benchmark in the construction industry.
We believe every incident is preventable and view safety as a shared responsibility that demands ongoing attention and proactive engagement.
We encourage all team members to maintain their A-game every day, prioritizing safety above all.
These events are not just a response to statutory requirements but a genuine effort to foster a culture where safety transcends compliance, becoming a way of life.
