What We Told Our Crew About Fall Safety (And Why It Matters)

At March Construction, nothing is more important than safety.

Our team took time out of the workday to talk about one of the biggest risks on any jobsite: falling.

“Every year, people fall from ladders, lifts, scaffolds, and roofs… and they get hurt bad or they get killed,” warned our Safety Director Frank Brady.

As part of the OSHA National Safety Stand-Down to Prevent Falls in Construction, Frank led the talk, with help from Gabriel Munez as a Spanish-speaking interpreter to make sure everyone on site could follow along.

This stand-down took place at One West, Linden, NJ.

The focus was on ladder safety, aerial lifts, and staying aware of your surroundings at all times.

“Construction is a serious business. You can’t be talking on your phone. You have to be paying attention to what you’re doing,” Frank added.

Frank spoke honestly about the dangers of rushing, skipping steps, or texting on the job.

He reminded the team that it’s not worth the risk. Even small distractions can lead to serious accidents.

A man recently fell fifty feet from a pump-jack because he didn’t erect it properly.

These are reminders that what we do in these small moments really do matter.

“I know you always hear from your bosses ‘We gotta get done!’ Get it done… but get it done safely. All of you work hard. You deserve to come home like you came to work,” reminds Frank.

Leila handed out safety brochures in both English and Spanish so that workers could take the information home and keep it fresh in their minds.

We’re proud of our team for taking part and making safety a priority.

At March, we believe that no job is more important than protecting the people who do the work.

Safety Coordinator Leila Stephan went the extra mile to organize a well-deserved pizza lunch for the team.

After the stand-down wrapped up, the crew wasted no time lining up for slices… and let’s just say, the boxes didn’t last long!

It was a great way to wrap up an important conversation and share a moment of appreciation with everyone onsite.
