Mayor Busch Speaks at New Multifamily Project by Klein Enterprises – Metuchen, NJ

Metuchen’s 212 Durham Avenue site has kicked off its much-anticipated transformation. It will take down several old, dilapidated warehouses to build a large residential community and apartment complex. The project also includes the creation of a 32-acre wildlife preserve in the borough of Metuchen.

The demolition of the dilapidated warehouses on the property  symbolizes the community’s collective vision of transforming the property’s industrial and warehouse legacy into one that is built upon resilience, rehabilitation, and redevelopment. The property’s warehouses have blocked access and view to Metuchen’s largest section of open space and most beautiful natural asset, the Dismal Brook Preserve section of the Peter J. Barnes III Wildlife Preserve.

This demolition will make space for a 30 plus acre recreational area that will be one of the most beautiful open spaces in the region. The preserve will feature boardwalk trails, a footbridge for walking over the brook, a bird watching tower, interpretive signage, and a public entrance and parking area with bike racks for the preserve and the future extension of the Middlesex County Greenway. The community will now have access to this expansive area for walking, hiking, biking, and strolling. This new recreational area will become a regular stop for people of all ages and abilities, making it an iconic Metuchen destination.

Partners from Metuchen Realty Acquisitions and Klein Enterprises, have spent $10 million+ in environmental remediation on the property, including planting 3,000 native species trees. The beautifully designed upscale apartment community will be constructed to pay tribute to the historic heritage of the site. This project has opened the largest recreational space in Metuchen, funding important infrastructure projects throughout the borough, and helps protect the environment–all while providing the community with new housing options.

The Gulton property at 212 Durham Ave will become a true landmark in the area, creating a new destination that will offer a blend of natural beauty, historic significance, and modern amenities.
